Derivation Kind
- CURIE:
gmeow:DerivationKind - IRI: https://blackcatinformatics.ca/gmeow/DerivationKind
- Category: class
- Defined by:
gmeow:slices/lexicon - Box roles: TBox role (What is this?)
The kind of etymological derivation — a value, never an Entity subclass. Open-ended: new historical-linguistic frameworks may introduce further derivation types without ontology modification.
Structure
Subclass of: gufo:QualityValue
Practical Pattern
Use gmeow:DerivationKind as a specialized kind of gufo:QualityValue. Add statement metadata or a standpoint when the assertion needs provenance, confidence, or vantage.
Usage Advice
Use when
- Use as the value vocabulary for the etymological-derivation-kind axis — the seeded kinds (inheritance, borrowing, calque, semantic shift, …) referenced from a derivation via
gmeow:derivationKind.
Avoid when
- Avoid creating per-kind subclasses (kinds are individuals) and avoid using it for the derivation claim itself (that is
gmeow:EtymologicalDerivation).
How to use
- Reference the seeded derivation-kind individuals from a derivation; extend the axis for a new historical-linguistic framework by minting a fresh
gmeow:DerivationKindindividual rather than a subclass.
